Exhibition at Art : Concept gallery until 12th March 2016
Art: Concept gallery presents in its recently opened space, passage Sainte Avoye, new works of artist Vidya Gastaldon, born in 1974. ‘Hello From the Other Side’ is a pop culture reference to the song by British singer Adele, who is a regular at the top of the ‘charts’.
The oil paintings and wool sculptures made by the Franco-Swiss artist are fed by diverse, rather eclectic influences, ranging from Hieronymus Bosch paintings to New Age, not to mention the graphic universe of Hokusai, who served as an inspiration for Gastaldon’s playful, almost psychedelic patchworks.
The wool-knitted suspension, clothed in warm colors, resembles a Chinese dragon or an Aztec divinity which opens doors to a parallel world, and reveals the series of paintings titled ‘Healing Painting’, started by the artist in 2013.
Anthropomorphic creatures taking the appearance of underwater monsters swarm merrily on the canvas, covering the oil paintings unearthed in flea markets. A poetic way to offer new life to these abandoned canvases.
A show straight out of a dreamlike vision!
