Exhibition until 5th March 2016 at Karsten Greve Gallery
Karsten Greve Gallery presents recent works by artist Gideon Rubin, born in Tel Aviv in 1973. A series of enigmatic portraits depicting faceless characters or showing the back of their head embeds us into an intimate, almost nostalgic atmosphere. After having drawn his inspiration from old family photo albums bought on EBay, the artist today focuses on pictures collected via the Internet.
Less is more! Simplicity and accuracy distinguish his work. Halfway between representation and abstraction, his broad brushstrokes of muted colours suggest more than they describe. And this is where the art of Gideon Rubin shines through, giving a strange sense of familiarity to those otherwise anonymous moments experienced in life.
A recommended exhibition!
