Until 30th May 2015 at Galerie Perrotin in Paris
Lionel Estève’s new exhibition, organised by Galerie Perrotin in Paris, could not bear a better name. With A wander, the French artist presents us with yet another cycle of experiments at the crossroads of drawing, sculpture and painting. His work, which combines simplicity and sensuality, does not fail to seduce us!
Lionel Estève has deployed his creative talents in homage to the vegetal world. The first exhibition room contains two large landscapes under glass with variations of delicate tones, while a feather, barely noticeable, is swirling in the centre of the room.
In the next room, we find pictorial compositions whose colours are reminiscent of Nabis landscapes. The artist has collected different types of foliage, which he dry pressed and bleached, before colouring and arranging them on a support. The special atmosphere that emerges is evocative of exotic landscapes.
Herbariums of gilded dried plants adorn the last room’s walls. Some are trapped under glass windows; others proliferate freely on the white surfaces of the gallery, creating a poetic and visually tactile result, recalling the cut-outs of Matisse.
A unique and inspired show!
