At Duboys Gallery until 17th October 2015
Duboys gallery presents until October 17th a new series of paintings by Florent Girard, featuring the bold and strong colours of the 26 years-old French artist. Within the series « à la surface de la langue » (on the surface of language), “Florent Girard continues his pictorial exploration of the themes of urban landscapes and the city’s periphery.
Even though computer assisted imaging has formed the basis for constructing the composition of most of Girard paintings, it is becoming less important for his more recent work such as this particular series. Rather, Girard “[…] felt [himself] being guided mainly by what occurred on the canvas.”
The oil, acrylic and glycéro paintings are the result of the artist’s exploration of his intuitions. The large canvases depict unusual landscapes animated with strange warehouses, road signs or organic shapes. Titles are replaced with reference numbers, giving the visitor more freedom for interpretation.
A seducing body of work!
